About the event

All sailors are invited to join the fun on Kentucky Lake! This 8 mile race series offers a

fun, casual environment for beginner sailors to hone their skills while more experienced

racers match wits in a battle of tactics on most weeks where there are no other regattas

or races scheduled, allowing KY Lake sailors a chance to race nearly every weekend

throughout the sailing season. Eight Saturday Series races each will be held in the

spring and fall, with the 4 best races per individual counting toward a cumulative score.

In the case of a tie, any races beyond the top 4 will be factored in.

No fees, memberships, or prior registration are required to participate. The horn blows

at 10:00 AM, and individual boats will start at their assigned times after the horn. For

more details or to get your starting time (based on PHRF rating), please contact Jarriot

Storie at jstorie@gmailcom or text (270) 619-1702.

Racers compete in an individually staggered start race from the green buoy near

Kentucky Dam to the green primary navigation buoy near the mouth of Nickel Cove on

the LBL side, then following the same course back to the starting point between the red

and green buoys at the center of the dam (see map below). Boats will proceed around

the course in a counterclockwise direction, rounding all marks to port. Special race

courses are used on an occasional basis. Watch this space and check the current

season’s schedule for details.

Coordinates for the Start / Finish: 37° 00.09 N * 88° 16.15 W

Coordinates for the Mark at Nickel Cove: 36° 57.58 N * 88° 12.29 W

*Note: the starting mark will always be the most eastern set of buoys leading into KDM. They

do go missing from time to time.
